Hi, I'm Austen! I'm a philosopher working primarily on the philosophy of language and philosophy of artificial intelligence. I recently completed my PhD at Stanford, where I defended a dissertation on vagueness and the way traditional formal resources might just be able to make sense of it. I’m generally interested in tensions between the technical details of theories and the phenomena they target. Beyond vagueness, I explore similar themes in work on AI and physicalism.

When I'm not doing philosophy I'm probably watching a baseball game, fiddling with a camera, or eating ice cream.
